25 years maintaining narrowboats at Stenson
Narrowboat bottoms are usually cleaned off and 'blacked' every 2-3 years. The process traditionally used on craft is to blast off the build-up of marine growth and corrosion, clean any areas which have been subject to corrosive attack and then re-apply a new protective coating.
Modern coatings on new craft often consist of a two pack epoxy primer followed by a protective coating suitable for the fresh water marine environment.
Our standard process uses the well proven International Intertuff 16 coating. 3 coats are applied after the bottom has been blasted off and prepared. Check prices here for having the job done well and your peace of mind.
Hull Inspection
Part of the service provided when boats are blacked is a visual inspection of the steering gear, stern tube and anodes. Boatowners are contacted when work is considered neccessary or anodes need replacing. This service often avoids the need for repair work requiring an additional slippage cost of the boat between bottom blackings.
